Chefs we love to see on our tv screen
Everyone has one tv chef they prefer above the others- whether for their personality or for the dishes they make. Here are some of Britain's favourite cooks on our TVs.
- Gordon Ramsey. Most well know for Hells kitchen, Ramsay has a temper more fiery than his oven and a mouth dirter than his kitchens unwashed pans. One of only 3 chefs in the UK to have 3 michelin stars for his resturants at the same time. Ramsay originally appeared on a documentary called boiling point, where he first became known to the public. This programme saw him going for this third Michelin star and helped make Ramsay a celebrity. Further shows have included 'Hells kitchen', 'the F word' and 'Ramsay's kitchen nightmares'. 'Hells kitchen' and 'kitchen nightmares' have also been re-made over in America, where even they arent safe from the abuse.
- Nigella Lawson. Child of former Conserative Nigel Lawson and author of the well recieved 'how to eat', Nigella's tv debut came in 2000 with the show 'Nigella bites'. This show won her the Television Broadcast of the Year at the Guild of Food Writers Awards. Lawson's approach to cuisine has won her many fans in America and over here. Though while popular with the pulbic, her daytime tv show 'Nigella' was cancelled after a week on air due to poor viewer figures. More of a writer than a presenter, she has sold over 3 million copies of her books to date.
- Jamie Oliver. the 'naked chef' was spotted by the BBC when working as a 'sous chef' at the river cafe in Fulham. The naked chef ran from 1998-99 and was followed by 'Pukka Tukka' and 'Jamie's kitchen'. On tv in 2005 and it had the chefs own mission to get the quality of school dinners raised, which saw the government promise to put almost 300 million into school dinners over 3 years. Oliver has been the face of Sainsbury's since 1998, a move which is earning him just over one million a year. Adored by Britain for being just that- British: in his dishes and mannerisms, it might be the reason he hasnt seemed to have done as well overseas- though to his credit im not sure he cares.
