How do I wean a baby mourning dove?
I found a mourning dove baby maybe 1 1/2 to 2 weeks ago? And it was newly hatched. Maybe a day or 2 old, and I tried looking for the nest but I couldn't find it or the parents. Anyways so now my baby's covered in feathers but her/his head still has pin feathers. Is it about time to wean my baby mourning dove? And if so, how do I wean it? Cuz it's really stuck on that baby bird food (Kaytee Exact) and I don't know where to start...or when! So I'd really appreciate the help 
Answer:
You SHOULD have turned this bird over to a wildlife rehab right away as it is illegal for you to be caring for it and now if you release it without having taught it to forage and feed on it's own..it will promptly die! You need to get this bird to an expert as soon as possible where it can hopefully stilll be taught the skills it needs to survive in the wild. Look here for a rehab near you:
