Pearls that made to History
Our history books have recorded many great pearls.
One such is "The Abernethy pearl" which stands out from millions of other pearls across the world. William Abernethy discovered it in 1969 in river "Tay". The Abernethy pearl is light pink in color and has a huge diameter of 2200mm. This same pearl also has a nick name "Little Willie" while the 'Little' sarcastically meant for its large size and 'Willie' again, for its discoverer.
Another great object in the world is "The Aphrodite Pin", which contains renowned pearls. The Aphrodite Pin is from the haven of Aphrodite in Cyprus and it is thought to date back as far as 300 BC. It is one of the best examples to show how good pearls were treated in those good old days. It contains pearls of two different origins – salt water pearl of large size and another of smaller size. Currently, this is stored in the British Museum, and is a very impressive piece of pearl Jewels.
Another pearl has a mystic story behind it. It is the Cleopatra's Pearl. This pearl was ground up by Cleopatra by taking one her pearly earrings and she drank it to win a bet posed by Marc Antony. The other earring was cut down to two pieces and made to two new earnings that now adorn the statue of Venus, located in the Pantheon in Rome.
Pearls even after with so high appreciation, are still affordable for the common man and one can find pearl jewels and pearl neck ornaments in almost every house irrespective of the social status and wealth. Pearls made a great deal of history for their value, perfection and last living.
